Doomer boomers and Dopamine Teens
With precisely dosed dopamine hits, American apps know exactly how to capture your attention. Their business model revolves around influencing your brain, and before you know it, you’re doomscrolling on the toilet. The impact of America on our thoughts and behaviour is quite literally in our pockets.
This installation investigates how these technologies shape our brains and how the internet accelerates their effects. The map examines their influence on different people, and focuses specifically on what social psychologist Jonathan Haidt calls ‘the anxious generation’.
But the mind map is not all doom and gloom, it also explores ways to escape these developments. How do we move forward from here and find little lights at the end of the tunnel?
